The story goes that in the 18th century, a post station was established on the Arignano bridge, serving as a stopping point by the old bridge where travelers could find care for their horses, food, and lodging. The station lost its importance with the construction of the railway station and consequently transformed into what was then called “La Pizzicheria di San Clemente” (San Clemente’s Grocery). This change, along with the arrival of electricity, allowed customers to consider the shop a place where they could listen to the first radio broadcasts, comfortably seated at a table. Another significant change occurred in 1920 when one of the first automatic coffee machines was installed, dispensing a historic blend from a renowned Florentine company, which is still served to the shop’s customers today.
From 1945, the present form of the business became an important meeting place and social hub, thanks also to the installation of one of the first television sets, allowing residents to follow world events while smoking a cigar, relaxing, and playing board games. Over the years, “All’Antica Bottega 1945” has increasingly recognized the fundamental importance of sourcing high-quality local products for its clientele. The renovated historic San Clemente shop aims to satisfy the needs of every palate, maintaining the tradition that still makes it a benchmark for quality for local customers and visitors from all over the world.
